Unlike most monasteries throughout the Himalayas, which are run by Buddhist monks, this monastery in the village of Pishu is run by Buddhist nuns. In fact, there were no monks at all residing there. This woman, a Chomo (Buddhist nun) was exceptionally kind and generous. We took one of our rest days in this village as she allowed us to partake in the daily puja (prayers) and rituals which included food, music and merriment.
