THE DESERT FORTRESS
India, Western Rajasthan, Jaisalmer
Arriving in this magical city at sunset, one feels transported into the tales of the Arabian Nights. Jaisalmer is better known as the "Golden city" because of the natural golden color reflected from the sandstone upon sunset. Long ago Jaisalmer was a strategic site on camel train routes for trade between India and central Asia and as a result, acquired much wealth. The increase in shipping trade and the port of Bombay brought about Jaisalmer's decline.
