This is the first of two images. Regarding geologic time, the colors of these three pools at (1600m, 5248ft) change frequently. For example, within the last forty years, the pools have been blue, maroon, and milky brown. Different minerals leaching into the pools offer one geologic explanation. The local story, however, suggests that the souls of the dead go to these pools. The young and elder souls go to the lighter colored pools, and those of thievery and murder go to the darkest pool.
